Born
in Goshen, Indiana Cynthia grew up on a lake in Northern Indiana. She became
a member of the United Methodist
Church in 1968 where she participated in the children’s choir, Girl Scouts,
attended Summer Choir Camp at Epworth Forest, Bible school, Sunday school and
week long summer camp.
Cynthia has a background in Art education with a focus in oil portraiture painting.
She studied with Martin and Margie Stevens at the age of 16, was a student of
Art Education at Western Michigan University, and a guest student of Drake University
under the direction of Abner Hershberger at Goshen College in Florence Italy.
Cynthia began working at a large public library as display assistant and Graphic
Artist, where she prepared advertising materials and illustrations through lithographic
printing. She also presented displays for Library Collections. She was on staff
at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church where she directed the children’s
choir and substituted as director for the Adult choir. Cynthia worked at CPI
Corporation, otherwise known as, Sears Portrait Studios, as photographer, studio
manager and district training manager.
Volunteer positions that Cynthia has been involved in are First Grade Sunday
School Teacher, New Mother Counselor, Parent Teacher Coop Secretary, Art History
and awareness elementary level, Bicycle safety awareness elementary level, Confirmation
Class Teacher, Greeter/Usher, Liturgist, Evangelism Chair, Bible School Co-director,
Bible School Music Leader, Worship and Arts Committee, Sanctuary Choir member,
Hand bell choir member, Disciple Class Leader, Meals on Wheels Delivery, Administrative
Council Member, Communion steward to the homebound, and NODA volunteer at Geisinger
Hospital.
Cynthia enjoys singing in the Bicentennial Choir and with her family, gardening
and wood crafts in her spare time.
